The Ireland-based corrugated packaging company, Smurfit Kappa, has announced plans to develop a variety of multi-purpose paper that will be suitable for both digital and flexographic printers.

In a press release, the company confirmed that its new digital innovation will offer a range of benefits to its customers such as greater flexibility, and customised graphic design to enable customers to have more control.

As the provider of a broad portfolio of paper-based packaging products, Smurfit Kappa made the decision to develop paper that can maximise the capabilities of digital print.

The plans will see Smurfit Kappa utilise its expertise and experience to create a unique and sustainable solution for all printing technologies.

It is hoped that by implementing the paper, it will create a whole host of new avenues to explore for the packaging industry.

Lars Henriksson, Vice President Product Development, Smurfit Kappa Paper Division, said: “To offer our customers the right graphic design with the right flexibility and quality, Smurfit Kappa has embraced digital printing.”

“This new range of paper has performed very well in our beta programme tests and looks very promising. It will be another step forward on our journey towards digitalising the paper-based packaging industry.”

It is anticipated that the new paper will be launched later this year.
