10. SK Hynix

SK Group is one of South Korea's top three industrial conglomerates and in 2012, it merged together with Hyundai Electronics, which became SK Hynix. Since then, SK Hynix has grown to a revenue of USD$35bn. The company is based in Icheon and aims to become the world’s best semiconductor company. 

9. Micron Technology

Micron Technology has 40,000 team members across 17 countries and was founded in 1978 in Boise, Idaho. The company has grown to become a world leader in innovative memory solutions and an ally of a multitude of brands, whom Micron Technology manufactures memory and storage systems.

8. Broadcom Inc.

Broadcom Inc. is headquartered in San Jose, California, where it designs, manufactures and supplies a broad range of semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions. Broadcom's solutions include data centre networking and storage, as well as cybersecurity software focused on automation, smartphone components and telecoms.

7. NXP Semiconductors

The only European-based semiconductor company on this list, NXP Semiconductors, is working towards a smarter, safer and more sustainable world, through its work across IoT and communication infrastructure. The company has 34,500 employees working in over 30 countries.

NXP’s Semiconductors is on a journey to make its business more environmentally sustainable and socially responsible, by manufacturing products that work more efficiently.

6. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)

The world’s first semiconductor foundry TSMC was founded in 1987, Taiwan, and continues to lead in manufacturing efficiency, with a range of customers, such as Apple. TSMC has built its reputation by offering advanced and "More-than-Moore"​ wafer production processes and unique manufacturing efficiency.

5. Texas Instruments

Texas Instruments offers a complete ecosystem of analog and embedded processing products that can be customised for any need. In addition, the company has been investing in the automotive market for the last three decades, its technologies giving customers the ability to introduce many highly sophisticated features into today’s automobiles. 

4. Qualcomm Incorporated 

Qualcomm was founded in 1985 and has become one of the biggest chip-makers and patent licensing businesses in the world, with 224 worldwide locations. Its portfolio includes products for processors, modems, platforms, RF systems and connectivity. Qualcomm Incorporated offers a full range of purpose-built, pre-packaged software, hardware.

3. AMD (Advanced Micro Devices)

For over 50 years, semiconductor manufacturer AMD has driven innovation in high-performance computing, graphics and visualisation technologies. AMD was founded in 1969 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. The company is driven to transform lives with its technology, to enrich the manufacturing industry and the wider world.

2. Intel Corporation

Intel was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, where it manufactures computers and semiconductor chips. Following the supply chain crises, CEO Patrick Gelsinger launched an expansion programme - from building semiconductor factories in Europe for the customer base there to using SDN. 

Over the next five years, Intel will invest more than US$100bn in domestic production of semiconductors, in locations such as Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Ohio, which will fill supply chain gaps and ensure the US’s economic and national security.

1. Samsung Electronics

The South Korean conglomerate Samsung is the biggest company in the country and manufactures electronics, appliances and mobile phones, as well as semiconductors and memory chips used in these devices. There are 1.033bn Samsung users in the smartphone market, which is 14% of the total global smartphone users. 

Samsung has recently revealed its plans to expand its semiconductor chip factory in Texas, USA, with the aim of expanding its chip production capacity.
