The Germany-based automotive manufacturer, Volkswagen, has announced it has signed two memorandums of understanding with the governments of Nigeria and Ghana.

The aim of the agreement is to develop plants in both of the countries and accelerate the development of new mobility solutions in Ghana.

As part of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s trip to Africa, the document was signed in front of Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, in a move which demonstrates how much Volkswagen values its reach in Africa.

Head of the Volkswagen Sub-Saharan Region, Thomas Schaefer, said: “Both memorandums of understanding demonstrate one thing: the seriousness with which Volkswagen takes its commitment to Africa.”
