Luxury auto manufacturer Porsche has expanded its German R&D center with three new state-of-the-art buildings. The new buildings include a design studio, a concept car construction facility, an aero-acoustic wind tunnel and an electronics integration center (EIZ).

The construction of the new buildings will cost the company in excess of $200 million.

“Intelligent engineering leads to success not only in motor vehicle manufacturing, but in architecture as well. That's shown by these new buildings: our creative developers are able here to work hand-in-hand even more methodically than before,” said Porsche executive board chairman Matthias Muller.

According to Muller, employees working at the new site will be able to do so in optimum conditions. For example, the new wind tunnel is located adjacent to the R&D and design studios, meaning that collaboration will be much more efficient. Porsche hopes the new facility will reduce the time between design and aero-acoustic development.

The newly developed EIZ will also give Porsche electronics engineers more freedom to develop vehicle components.
